Iโm embracing the chilly, snowy weather weโve been having. I love winter for many reasons, like waking up to its peaceful mornings and seeing a thick blanket of snow weighing heavily on tree branches. There is a certain magic to winter. ๐ Itโs when the frost makes patterns on our windows, and the days are shorter than the nights ๐. Itโs when coming home to the slow cooker simmering and cuddling up with a hot chocolate is the highlight of your night. Itโs when lighting candles ๐ฏ and staying in to watch a movie, is just as fun as going out. Winter gives us the opportunity to slow down ๐ฆฅ , rest ๐ด, and recharge ๐. Maybe this is the reason that there are so many idioms in the English language related to winter, snow, and cold weather. People have found a way to embrace it and to find ways to relate the icy conditions to other aspects of our lives.
If youโre not familiar with idioms, they are expressions which cannot be understood literally. Idioms have a figurative meaning. I will share 10 of my favourite winter idioms, but you can watch the YouTube video below to learn 20 in total. There is even a bonus question at the end to test your knowledge.
